Mundesley

Mundesley is a charming seaside village situated on the North Norfolk coast close to Cromer. It‘s a relaxed, uncommercialised, place which is ideal for a peaceful beach holiday, or get away-from-it-all break. Without a doubt Mundesley’s major attraction is its superb sandy beach. For several years now the beach has won Blue Flag recognition for its excellent water quality standards. It’s also a very safe beach, with lifeguards during the summer, making it ideal spot for toddlers & children to play in the fine sand.

Mundesley nestles in a valley on the rolling cliffs with fine views out over the sea. Traditional flint & brick buildings abound and Mundesley boasts many picture postcard views, including an impressive Church and Windmill (Stow Mill). Mundesley Beck flows into an old millpond, now the domain for many ducks, geese & wild birds. Also local fishermen can often be seen fishing or launching their boats from the beach. One of the country’s smallest museums can be found on the cliff top above the main breach and also acts as a look out tower.

For those not wishing to venture far from the beach the village centre has a varied selection of shops supplying everyday provisions including General Stores, Chemist, Green Grocers, Butchers, Florist, Tourist Information and it has a very pretty Post Office. You can also find cafes, tea-rooms, restaurants & pubs offering a wide range of eat-out food.

Also, Mundsley has a golf course, which welcomes visiting players, and, for those interested in horse riding, there are riding stables at nearby Gimingham.

Mundesley is also an ideal base from which to visit other places in North Norfolk. Cromer, with its Victorian Pier, is a quaint seaside town and adjoining Sherringham hosts the North Norfolk Steam Railway. The area has a wide range of Art & Craft centres such as Langham Glass, Wroxham Barns, Cley Potteries & Alby Crafts. Norfolk abounds with local artists and many surrounding towns & villages host Antique Shops & Art Galleries.

Many parts of the coast are designated nature reserves or conservancy areas and are ideal for bird watching, fishing or just messing about on the water. The picturesque Norfolk broads are close by and you can take river trips & hire day boats from nearby Wroxham. If you prefer the sea, take a boat trip from Morston harbour out to Blakeney Point to view the seals, wild fowl & varied sea birds.

No visit to Norfolk is complete without a trip to Norwich - the capital city. Norwich is about 30 minutes drive away and offers excellent shopping & sight seeing oppertunities. Also if you are looking for a faster pace of life, then Great Yarmouth offers many attractions such as amusement arcades, sea-side shows and all the fun of the fair.
